Florea Cioaca
One of the great Rom violinists, originally from the city of Craiova in Gorj, Florea Cioaca played in several of the Romanian state ensembles for many years. At last recognized and allowed to make a few solo recordings. This one I bought in Bucharest in 1965. It is long one of my favorite examples of the Romanian Musica Lautareasca style. Tight, elegant and lyrical, it is hard to think of anything that better represents the style than this.
Ten or so years later he made a full 12inch Lp but in view it does not compare with the few gems on this Ep. I noted in the Electrecord catalogs that Cioaca made another small EP about the same time as this one. I was never able to find a copy. If any one has this, please share it.
Invelitul Miresei - The Enveiling of the Bride
Hora lui Buica - Buica's Hora (Maybe Nicolae Buica)
Mierlitza, cind e boldnava - "The Little Merle, When she is sick"
Hora Boldenilor - Hora of Flower Vendors
Also please note that I am putting up my own field recordings from Romania made in 1977. Romania-1977
